• HAPPY GREENFIELD ECOSTAY
    PHONG NHA

When I went to visit a famous Phong Nha Cave I stayed at Happy Greenfield Ecostay with beautiful picturesque views of rice paddies and family-style dinners with the owner and his family.

night crab fishing  cooking lesson   campfire   local bicycle tour  farming classes

  • bungalows, rooms & dormitory available
  • includes breakfast with fruits & veggies grown on this farm
  • laundry service
  • not far from the local produce market

And although it is located a short motorbike ride away from the main town, the peaceful farmland scenery and the sounds of nature are definitely worth a little trip. I would go on morning bicycle rides to the local produce market and surrounding villages and watch the sunset in the evenings from a hammock.

Locals here are very friendly and kids welcome you with enthusiastic hellos. Huge water buffaloes seem intimidating only at the beginning and you quickly get used to these giant yet gentle animals.

On one of my bicycle rides, I’ve stumbled upon a traditional Vietnamese cemetery, which seemed very old and was very picturesque. The elaborate designs of tombstones have a lot of hidden meanings and are full of ancient omens which are very interesting to study up close.

Phong Nha Cave is located on the Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park territory and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The best way to see the cave is by taking a boat tour. If you venture in on foot, you will see only the first grotto and miss some spectacular ones deep on the inside. This is one of the largest caves in Vietnam and it is much bigger than grottoes in Ninh Binh.
